Address
Postern Hill, Marlborough, SN8 4ND
Description
Postern Hill is located in the Savernake Forest, which is privately owned by the Earl of Cardigan and his family. The luscious green canopy of oak trees makes the woodland ideal for walking and cycling. If it's woodland wildlife that you are interested in, this is a good spot for watchig bats - eleven different species have been recorded here. There is a toilet block with hot and cold running water, but there are no showers on the site and dogs are welcome. The site received an Award of Special Distinction in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards. A twenty-minute walk will take you into the historic market town of Marlborough, recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1097. There's a supermarket, post office, pubs, restaurants and other shops in the town centre. Other nearby attractons include Longleat Safari Park, Avebury Stone Circle, Stonehenge, and the Kennet and Avon canals.
Directions
The site is located at the northern end of Savernake Forest, 1 mile south of Marlborough on the A346 towards Tidworth. Junction 15 on the M4 is just 10 miles away.
