- Description
- "A peaceful haven near the Northumberland coast"
In the past, Dunstan Hill saw 400 years of violence and unrest – you can see the results in the local castles and fortifications. Now it could not be more tranquil, just a mile from the glorious Northumberland coast. - Tourist Attractions
- The lovely beaches of the North Northumberland Heritage Coast area a few minutes’ walk from the site, and Embleton Bay offers views to Dunstanburgh Castle. Other castles nearby include Bamburgh, which traces its royal heritage back to the 7th century; and Alnwick, now best known for its role as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films.
Fans of horticulture will enjoy a visit to Alnwick Garden, home to a giant holly serpent and some of the world’s most poisonous plants; animal lovers should head for the Farne Islands. Here you can see a seal colony and bird breeding colonies (including puffins) in early summer (boats leave from Seahouses).
