Tourist Attractions
Haltwhistle town is full of history and contains a 12th-century church; a peletower, now a hotel; and five other Bastle Houses (defensible houses) from its Border Reliving past. You can also enjoy the local countryside on the Haltwhistle Rings, a series of 22 local walks.
Other local activities include the South Tyne Trail, part of the National Cycle Network, half a mile from the site; and fishing is possible in the River Tyne for those with a rod licence.
There are lots of historic attractions, too. Featherstone Castle is within walking distance; Hadrian’s Wall is only four miles from the site and Housesteads Roman Fort is the most complete Roman fort in Britain.
